Airgun Survival Weapons with Graphic Hunting Video

Hunting Tools: Quiet Kills on Small Game.

Hunting for food in a situation where you do not want attention from loud ammunition most commonly used in small game hunting.

Pellet Air-Rifles make for an excellent highly accurate hunting tool. Capable of taking down small game from an average short 30yrd distance to 100 yards plus, depending on caliber, power and accuracy.

Silent but Deadly
Hunting silently with an Air Powered rifle doesn't mean complete silence. Some airguns make for loud shots and can be as loud as a .22 cal Rifle, this also depends on the ammunition. Lead pellets and Tungsten hybrids are both good for hunting, but in my book, lead still packs the bag limit faster than tungsten.

Tungsten can drive into a target easily, but doesn't offer the same heavier weight and deep destruction on impact. Although I don't turn my nose up at any form of ammo and I do use the Hybrids for both target practice and hunting. I just prefer a heavier round and impact.

Gamo .22 cal Rocket Lead Pellets with a Hardened Steel Tip with a good but lower weight of 14.3gr are excellent small game ammunition. I would suggest anything rabbit in size, upwards to small wild pigs. Behind the ear kills or head shots can easily kill these animals.

.177 cal is an excellent multipurpose ammo. The fact is any high powered air gun with the right ammunition is capable of killing almost anything with the right shot. Demonstrated below, a 180-200# Wild Hog is dropped with a .177 cal round. The shot placement, directly into the skull.

Special Metal (Tungsten) Pellets -vs- Lead

PBA Rounds are special ballistic ammo that can penetrate much deeper than lead. Accurate and destructive, PBA rounds are deadly effective. The best ammo in my opinion really depends on the shooting preferences and skill of the shooter. Just as I prefer lead rounds with steel tips, someone else might like Hybrid Tungsten ammo. I like having a steel tip on my lead, which gives me the penetration of ballistics like PBA, but with the punch and mushrooming of heavier lead.

Now with the world being so uncertain, and with people stocking up on survival gear, I am making this suggestion. Air Powered weapons that don't use C02 will be handy and effective at putting a meal on the table. The ability to remain quiet and deadly, with cheap ammunition, is an added bonus in survival.

Best Airguns for Survival

There are hundreds of Air Rifles available today that have the power to do the job of hunting small query to very large query. A good set of skills and proper weaponry can put food on the table much better than you might think.

While there are air powered weapons that can shoot .45 cal or even .357 cal slugs, the mainstream user is using .177 - .22 - .25 cal air powered pellets.

As shown in this next video, the hunter shooting the pig is using a .45 Slug with a very high powered air rifle. The weapon is deadly, but how effective at longer distances? And there is a reason why the sound is off. High powered lead throwers like this are clumsy and loud, but deadly. The only thing I can say is, a much quieter .177 pellet rifle can kill the same sized animal, of course with the right shot placement.

A .45 cal Air rifle for survival would wear you out carrying it around and is much louder. That aside it would however constitute for a higher measure of protection at close range. Granted you would need an air pressure source to regenerate the main air cylinder and would have to lug around 400 gr Ammo.

Airguns Best Packed in Your Bug Out Survival Bag

Bug out bags are everywhere, people buy prepackaged Survival gear bags, then hide them in the back of the closet. Essentially a good bug out bag should have something packed away that can let you hunt for food. Using a stick with a knife bound to the end is primitive and effective, but not going to consistently get enough food for anyone to really live off of.

So hunting with a really accurate and effective weapon is really what you need. Crossbows and Arrow munition can be effective, but the arrows are a costly loss in the field. While ammo for airguns can be stocked up in the thousands of rounds, pellets are not exactly the cheapest depending on type. For the most part though, a simple grade of lead pellets can be highly effective and a dependable source of low priced ammo.

These are my recommended Survival Airguns.
