Deadly Military Knives

Hand to hand combat (CQC) knives

What are the best knives for CQC Close Quarter Combat?

When looking for knives that are best suited for tight and up-close hand to hand fighting, you are going to want to look for a few basic points in craftsmanship.

Quality military knives are expensive, especially highly sought after blades from dependable retailers. Following these next few suggestions will help you on your way to finding the best suited knife for your needs.

1. No Light Reflection. Powder-coated non-reflective blades are important. A shiny blade is the last thing you want. Reflection of light, even during the day can give away your position and your intentions. Black coatings or even printed coatings are perfect for 99% of military applications.

2. Length. Blade length should be at least 6" to no more than 12". The use of longer steal goes towards the intended application of use, which is killing your enemy. Chest cavity thrusts, and armor piercing through layers of clothing will hamper or stop your blade from full penetration. At least 6 inches, no less is suitable for a good military blade.

3. Blade construction and design. Looks are not everything, so don't get drawn into a knife just because of looks or shape. Practical blades should have a drop point or a spear tip. Although some people may disagree, a saw back blade is indispensable. Although a scalloped edge isn't exactly a deal breaker should you come across a good knife without one, having one or a back up with a sawing edge is ultra important.

Reasons for this include. Cutting rope, quick cut downs of saplings, knife protection from grabs and catching. There are a number of good reasons to have this cutting edge, the only draw backs are it can snag clothing, and slow your withdrawal of the blade from heavily clothed enemy personnel.

4. Full Tang Construction. This is a deal breaker. I will never buy a knife that doesn't have a full tang tip to butt construction. Reason being, without this in a knife, you have a very flimsy and weak blade. I have seen knives of this type get unarmed from the user, by simply grabbing and bending the blade, or even twisting it. A full tang knife will always stand up to this type of attempt at disarming you.

5. Sheath Materials. Quiet is deadly, and the last thing you need is a Velcro rip sound when you unsheathe your blade. Buttons are fine. Don't pass on a good knife just because of a Velcro clasp. Easily fixed with a Button Riveter and a little effort.
